New England Digital Arts Is Closing

After 15 years of independent radio, New England Digital Arts will shut down effective January 2016.

We're closing due to new Copyright Royalty Board regulations that take effect January 1st. The Small Webcaster Agreement—which has allowed small stations like ours to operate since 2001—expires this year. The new per-performance royalty rates make it impossible for independent webcasters to survive. What was once a percentage-of-revenue model is now $0.002+ per song streamed, which translates to unsustainable monthly costs for operations our size.

This isn't about running out of passion—it's a regulatory issue affecting independent webcasters across the country.
